The GST InvoiceNow requirement is being introduced in phases. A business should identify its own onboarding date before asking finance staff or a software vendor to rebuild the invoice process.

Start by separating the records
For a company team, the useful question is not whether a task appears on a calendar. It is whether the Singapore record can be matched to the correct entity, responsible person and filing evidence.
In practice, the question is seldom whether a document exists. The important points are whose record it is, which step it supports and when it was valid. The public guidance from Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore is a sensible starting point, but account messages and case-specific requests still need a separate review.
Checks before action
One case owner should complete these four checks and record how any difference was resolved.
- Check whether the business is applying for voluntary GST registration or falls into another phase.
- Verify that the accounting solution can connect through the InvoiceNow network.
- Map sales invoices, purchase invoices, credit notes and excluded transactions.
- Test data quality before live invoice data is submitted to IRAS.
Where the file often breaks
Buying compliant software does not fix poor customer, supplier or tax-code data. Bad master data simply reaches the authority faster.
Leave a file another reviewer can follow
Keep the scope assessment, vendor confirmation, test cases, rejected records and go-live approval. Finance should be able to explain which transactions are sent and why.
Ask someone who did not handle the matter to sample the file. If that person can reconstruct what happened from the working paper, the record is ready for handover.
